WELLINGTON, Dec. 3. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the Hish Commissioner, dated London, December Ist: — The mutton market is dull, but holders are firm and stocks on hand are small. The average price of Canterbury is 4£d, North Island 4£d, and River Plate 3£d. Argentine sellers are pushing sales with an object of lowering the prices. The lamb market is firm, and the supply is failing short of the demand. The weather continues favourable for the ' sale of lamb. The nominal price of Canterbury brands is 5-|d per lb. This season's Australian is selling at s|d per lb. The beef market is dull, and supplies of River Plate are heavy. New Zealand beef is quoted -at B§d, and 3fd per lb for hind and forequarters, respectively. The butter market is overstocked and depressed. Buyers are holding back expecting prices to go lower. The weather is very unfavourable for the sale of butter, and heavy arrivals are anticipated. Danish butter is quoted at 116s, choice New Zealand 110s, Argentine 108s, Australian 107s, and Siberian at 98s per cwt. The cheese market is steady, but there is only a small demand. Canadian make is quoted at 62s per cwt. The hemp market is firm. The excitement lately prevailing on the market is subsiding. There is a good demand for all descriptions. Good fair .grade on the spot is quoted at £39, and January-March shipment £3710s per ton. There is a better demand for Cocksfoot seed, Bright clean 17lb New Zealand seed is quoted at 45s per cwt.
