P. Evans, at Maryborough, on Saturday, December 15th. TURF NOTES. THE WOODVILLE MEETING. (By Zetland). The Woodville Meeting which will open to-mortow, promises to be. one of the most successful yet held by the Club. The acceptances are exceptionally numerous,, and really interesting racing should be witnessed throughout. The course is said to be in first-class order, , and as the majority of horses are • very forward in / condition some fast times should be recorded. The programme will open with the Maiden Piatt, of one mile. In this the majority have not jet been seen out in public, so the winner may not be easy to pick. Pluck, by Merriwee—Viotoria Cross and the Gipsy Grand mare, Grand Poplar, should both be [ suited by the distance, and as the latter is said to be an improved mare of late she may score. There are 23 aooeptors for the Hack Plying, and backers will be set a very difficult task in the endeavour to find the winner. 4rai> 4:ura, by Birkenhead—Pair Nell, showed winning form at the Poverty Bay meeting this month, Lady Beresford and Golden Eagle won at £eilding on Thursday, , while Waitati, Miss Adeline, Wailethe, Saga and Marseillaise, are expected to win races shortly. In suoh a big field there is to a certain extent an element of luck as to the placing of the most fancied candidates during the running of the race. Of the Grandstand Hack Handicap field, Moral (8.11) reads well on his Feilding running, but -Silken Rein, Immolation and Menoa, may prove able to making him do hie best. Paritutu will probably start a good favourite for the Woodville Handicap, 13< mile, but at the same time the raoe is a very open one, several pf the candidates appearing to have an excellent chance of accounting for toe principal event. Gold Seal is well treated in the Borough Handicap, and Silken Rein (if reserved) and Reservoir look likely ones in the Welter Hack. A spJ«ndid lot of SDrioters will line up for the Electric Handicap, of 5 furlongs. On the feilding running, where Lord Soult ran 6 furlongs in Imin 13 2'ssec, the race would appear to be a gift to the Soult gelding. Others that are sure to be well backed BTe Platypus, Pink'un, Aboriginal, Contender and Sootoh Reel. For the various events the following are suggested as likely to ion most prominently:— Maiden Plate—Pluck and Grand Poplar. * Hack Flying—Araiteuru and Saga. Hack Hurdles—Bandmaster and Lull. Grandstand Hack Moral and Silken Rein. Woodville Handicap— Operetta .-and Submarine. Borough Handicap Gold Seal , <and Jolly Priar. Welter Hack Reservoir and Marinella. Eleotrio Handicap— Lord Soult Pink'-un.
