UNABLE TO PASS THE EDUCATION TEST.
By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 3. An Austrian youth, who failed to pass the education test upon arriving from Sydney a week ago, upon the steamer Manuka, has been ordered by the magistrate to be deported to Sydney and kept in gaol until the time of. leaving. The youth was detained on the steamer, but escaped and was arrested. The Collector of Customs said the youth would probably learn to write after spending a j few weeks in Sydney, and could then be admitted to the colony.
