The Board of Conciliation will sit at Masterton, 'to-morrow, in connection with the Wellington plumbers' industrial dispute.
The General Manager of the New Zealand Railways has given instructions for the formation of' extra platform accommodation at the Kuripuni Railway Station. It Is rropoeed to extend the present platform about 100 ft in each direction.
At a special meeting of the Board of Management of the Y.M.O.A. last evening, Mr' Sydney Ea*eß was eleoted Treasurer of the Association. With reference to the non-payment of subscriptions it was pointed out that members «hu had not paid, their subscriptions after a lapse "of six mouths, were liable to be straok off the roll of the Association.
At a meeting of the Masterton Ambulance Corps, held in the Y.M.O.A. Rooms, last evening, it was reported that subscriptions were coming in freely, and it was hoped to shortly realise the amount required for the purohaseof an ambul. anoo wagon. A certain portion of the town was allotted to each member for the purpose of canvassing for susoriptioos.
A conference of the woollen, manufacturers of New Zealand will be held at Christohnroh to day for Ihe purpbse o£ considering proposals by thejadoption of which it is hoperl to place the woollen industry of the colony on a better footing. The high prioes of wool and the increased importation of woollen goods has during the past two years materially affected this industry, and primarily for these reasons the woollen manufacturers of New Zealand have deemed it desirable to meet in conference and consider their position.
During hjs trip to England Mr Jas. Trevor., a well-known Wellington resident, was greatly impressed with the efforts mads by the London County Council and the urban institutions to provide open spaces for the people. There was no doubt, he said, thnt London was wellv supplied with recreation grounds now. The urban councils appeared to be doing everything in their power to build up a healthy people. Nearly all the outside areas had their tennis courts for the yonng and bowling greens for those more advanced in years.

On Saturday afternoon an Incipient Are was discovered near the walls of Messrs Booth and Oo.'s mill at Carterton. Some live coals bad apparently oeen thrown clear of the building, but these ignited the grass,, and the fire came through to thefoundation blocks, one of which was charred. The fire was put oat with a bucket of wafer.
Mr H. Kanisb, of the billiardtable making firm of Wright, Banish and Co., Wellington, is retiring 1 from the business early in the New Year and proposes to settle down oa a 3,000-aore station in the Martinborough district at present owned' by Mr James Wall. 'lhe change includes an exchange of business for Mr Wall will take over Me Eanish's city interests.

In another column the aggregute balance sheet of the Bank of New South Wales to September 30th, 1906, _is published. The position disolosed is one of great strength, the liquid assets amounting to close upon thirty three and a half millions. The profits for the half-year amount to £138,316 5s 9d, while the usual dividend of 10 per cent, hast been deßlared. The English Bank* ers 1 Magazine refers to the Bank of New South Wales as "the most important bank in the Australasian colonies," and the latest balano» sheet certainly maintains the Bank's prestige.
