Daring a discussion in the Portuguese Chamber on the King's private debts, Doctor AEEorea Costa asked the Government to . mortgage the Royal estates, and then expel the King like a common criminal. ® Amid a scene of great confusion, Doctor Braga, the Republican leader, deolared the King was a thief and robber. The military were ordered to dear the Chamber. A member appealed to the soldiers to proclaim a republic, at whioh strangers in the gallery cheered. Tne soldiers expelled the interrupters. The House suspended Drs Braga and Costa for thirty days.
