THE EDUCATION BILL.

Reoeived November 23, 10.42 p.m. LONDON, November 23. Id the House of Lord the Education Bill passed through Committee. A proposal to establish a Welsh Council of Eduoation was rejected by 109 to 44. An influential deputation of churchmen urged the Archbishop of Canterbury to compromise. The Archbishop of Canterbury replied that' he desired a settlement on large and generous lines. It was inevitable that the Church must lose largely, no matter bow the Bill was modified. Personally he was prepared to put up with a great deal and face many difficulties in order to stop a bitter controversy.
