OBITUARY.
HON. A. PITT. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 17 Hon. A. Pitt, Attorney-General, Minister for Defence, and Minister in Charge of the Accident and tire Insurance Departments, died at 5.15 this morning, at Nurea Turner's Private Nursing Home, where he underwent a serious operation a few dnys ago. On Friday lie showed considerable improvement, but he slowly sank all day on Saturday, and could not retain any nourishment. Ha continued to sink during the night, and at 4.30 a.m. asked for a cup of tea, which was siren him. He then fell into a deep slumber, and died peacefully in his sleep. On the news reaching news Wellington orders were immediately given for the despatch of the Government steamer Tutanekai t.o Lyttelton. She will roach port early to-morrow morning, and will wait until the arrival of the second express, which will brine the Premier ani the Hon. J. A. Millar, up from the South. The body will te placed on board and the steamor will leave direct for Nelson, whore the interment will take place. It is understood that the funeral will no: be a military one. Hall Jonea will journey by the Tutanekai, in order to be present at the funeral.
