UCJNEDIN, November 18. An inquest was held at Knitangata on Saturday, respecting the death, in the Kaitangata Mine, of Frederick Anderson, shift orerseor, and William JUee, engiuoar, who were overcome while Investigating the state of affairs in the return airway. A verdict was returned that the deceased wore accidentally asphyxiated no blame being attached'.to auyone.
Of the prisoners receiveci into the gaols of the colony last year 246 were unable to read or write, 75 oould only read, 4,694 onul'd read and write, and 20 only are described as possessing superiur education.
