N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.

In connection with his resignation of the position of Colonial Secretary to the New Zealand Farmers' Union, Mr McOardy stated to a New Zealand Times reporter, tiiat he hoped to he released from bis duties in connection with the organisation at the t>nd of the current month. He waa not disposed to be oommunicative on the matters which have led to his deeiding to sever his connection with the Farmers* Union, but fcr some weeks past there has been a difference of opinion between the secretary of the union on tbe one hand and the president and hia Advisory Board on the other, with regard to the policy of tbe latter in connection with the Government's new Land Hill—a policy whioh Mr McOurdy appears to ooQ'fldeE antagonistic to his Farmers' Union platform and the well being of the organisation. By dint of questioning, the reporter was able to gather some idea of Mr MoCurdy's attitude to the land proposals -the rock whioh has caused the present split. Mr McCurdy could offer only a personal opinion. He is in favour of a lease with right of purchase and a limitation of area bnsed nn a producing capacity valuation. In his opinion, a lease with right of renewal, for terms of twenty one years, on revaluation, and with rigM of purchase within each term at the upset price of eaoh term would be the most satisfactory method of settling the land of the oolony. No right of purobase. should be permitted unless the residential and improvement conditions had been faithfully oarriert out, and in cases where the residential conditions were waived by the State, double or even treble improvements should be demanded before t,be right of purchase might be oxeroised.
