He bad always advocated leasehold with tight to aaquire the freehold as a system suited for the poor man He reaeived a vote of thanks and confidence. - Mr Masaey then said that at no time in the history of the.nolony had it been so necessary to elect an able, strong, honest man to Parliament. prosperity covered a multitude of sins, and when an era of extravaganoe appeared to have set in, the fcendenoy of tho Government seemed to be to place itself under the ooatrol of the Socialistic section of the House, with the result that such measures as tho Land Bill were introduced. GREYMOUTH, November 15. The Hun. A. R. Guinness, Speaker of the House, to day received intimation that a notice of the vacancy in the representation of the electoral district of Manakau appears in this week's Gazette. He will cause a writ to be issued tomorrow. It is returnable within 21 days, and the Registrar of Electors, ou reoeipt Df the writ, is to give ten days' notiae of the date of the poll.
