MATCH AGAINST AUSTRALIA. VISITORS DEFEATED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received November 5, 10.3 p.m. MELBOURNE, Nov. 5. The test matoh between New Zealand and Australia was played at Moonee Ponds, to-day. The weather was bitterly cold, affecting the New Zealandere, several of whom were unable to play, owing to influenza. The green was heavy, though it played well. The viaitora were welcomed"' by Or Pattison, Mayor of Essanden. Australia Won by 11 points, the totals Being—Australia 150, New Zealand 149. Scores:— Harrison, Howe, Kelly* Cooper (Victor'a), 32, beat Baistings, Gillies, Rauin : Dall (New Zealand), 29. Thackeray, Ernger, Robinson, Roberts (West aus« tralia), 23, beat Kenst, Waddell, Mowlem, BouakiHg (New Zealand), 20. Morrison, Pasooe, Smith, Waxman (Victoria), 47, beat Dure, Haueoek, Buchanan, McLaren, (New Zealand), 12. Crouch, Eorsiderg, Goodwin, Neil (New South Wales), 16. lost to Rei'd, Osmond, Smith, Payne' (New Zealand), 30. Sohultz,. Harold, Thomas, Moudy (South Australia), '2O, beat Akhurst, Taylor, Lei'evre, Gardner (New Zealaud), 19. Melross, Honman, Ing- ( lie, Jackson (Tasmania), 21, lost to Black, Manniug, Soott, Sneddon (New Zealand), 39. After tha match the Victorian President (Mr Wood) congratulated the New Zealanders on the good fight they had made. Mr Payne, in responding, said that though defeated to-day he hoped to reverse matters in the next two matches.
