CRICKET NOTES.

(By Cover Point). The Wairarapa Orloket Association's fixtures were commenced on Saturday. On the Park Oval Carterton met Masterton A. Masterton went to the wioketa first, being represented by MoGurk and GlarIdge. The latier player, by some bard hitting, got into doable figures in the first over. MoGurk baited carefully, and scored a couple uf singles, while Olaridge brought his score to 12. The soore stood at 14, then Smart caught Olaridge in the oataeld off a big bit. The retiring batsman bad done some olean bitting, and his score included two fours. Perry joined MoGurk, who was playing nice cricket. The pair carried the score to 20, when Carroll disposed of Perry, who had made five with some good strokes. The partnership between MoGurk and Dwyer was a moat serviceable one. Dwyer hit out, and soon soored 13. MoGurk carefully brought his score up to nine. With the total at 44, MoGork was unfortunately run out. He had soored his runs by good orijket, and uji»de some particularly nice leg strokes. In fact some of his efforts on the legside were as neat as I have seen on the Oval for some time. Maokellar joined Dwyer, but after three bad been added to the total Bannin bowled Maokellar. Monro left with the tot&l still the game, and Bannin caught Dwyer off Workman without a run being added to the score. Dwyer batted well for his 13 runs. Pish and Trusoott became associated. Only one run was soored, and then Bonny disposed of Trusoott by a clever one-band catch off Bannin. Wiokens joined Fish, and the pair carried the total to 63, mainly through Fiah'a efforts. The last two men were Dupre and Fiab, Parton being absent. Carroll bowled Fish without the soore being altered. Fish had made 13 in good style. He hit two fours off Workman. Bannin was the most successful bowler for Carterton, taking three wickets for nine runa. Carroll and Mainsell also bowled well. The running between the wickets of some of the Maßterton players was not good. There is room for improvement in this direction. Carterton were disposed of for 25, Beeoaey making 10. Fish took 3 wickets for 9, and MoGurk 3 for 16. Masterton, in their second innings, have lost 4 wioketß for 77. Dwyer is not out with 30 to his credit. He gave a fine display. Fish (17), MoGurk (13), and Parton <l3) also batted well. ' Six of the Masterton B team journeyed to Eketahuna on Saturday, and commenced a matoh against the local team. Eketahuna batted first and made 58, Lee being top soorer with 12. Jtiedmond bowled In fine style, taking 5 wickets for 20 runs. Masterton's innings resulted in 44, Eedmond and Esson being responsible fur 28 of the runs, and "extras" 12. JNelson secured 3 wiakets for 13 runs and Griffith 2 for 8. Eket,ahuna scored 41 in their second innings, the only double figure soorer being Oldridge, who made 13. Redmond came out with the splendid average of 6 for 14. Esson secured 3 wickets for 10, and Wiokens 1 for 12. The S. Matthew's and Y.M.O.A. Clubs met on the Schoolground, on Saturday afternoon, and an evenly oontested game resulted in a win for the former by 3 wickets. The S. Matthew's Club are to be congratulated on winning their first match. The Y.M.OA. occupied the wickets flist. Hoar and Phillips opeued the bowling, and the first three wickets fell without a run being soored. Through the efforts of Matthews (11), Daniell (7). E. Lett (7 not out), and "extras" (9), the soore was taken to 34. Hoar and Phillips bowled well, the former taking seven wiokets. S. Matthew's responded with 43, Fenwlok (12), and Phillips (12), being the top eoorers. Wilkie, W. Lett and Matthews did some good bowling. In their seoond inninps Y.M.O.A. made 89. P. Lett (15), Evans (13) and Williams (10) batted well. Hoar took four wickets, Collins three, Siraonson two and Ueowiok one. 8.
