MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Ouunoil was held ou Saturday, October 27fcb, 1906. Present—Crs H. W. H. Kummer (chairman), H. J. Dagg, M. Kennedy, 0. 0. Jackaun, J. if. Heokler, and C. a. Wall. The Secretary to the Charitable Aid Board wrote asking that facilities might be given to the inspector when enquiring into the dispensing of local relief. The Clerk said that he hail informed the Secretary that every assistance in hia power would be given tn the inspector. The District Railway Engineer wrote regretting that be oould not comply with the Council's request to shift the railway fence towards the line to facilitate the construction of the footpath. Thenaturo of the slope between the road and the railway would not permit te fence being moved from its present position. A copy of an Order-in-Council was received/ including African boxthorn in the second ached ule of the Noxious Weeds Act. The Maaterton County Clerk forwarded copies of correspondence relative to the dispute between his Council and the Return in g Officer over the cost of the late licensing eleotion. The opinion ot the Mauriceville Council appeared to be that the Masterton County Counoil, aa the representative local body, waa justified in protesting against the cost of the recent eleotion, but it was not disposed to support it in any litigation over the matter, if saoh is intended. The inspector was instructed to get the rubbish cleared away from the bridge at Mr W. Welch's frontage on the Kangamahoe Road, and the Clerk was directed to again communicate with the Eketahuna County Counoil respecting the repairs needed to the bridge at Kaiparoro, alio to write to the Lime Company, whosa agreement to execute oertain road works has now expired, stating that the Council is prepared to enter into a somewhat similar agreement for the current year. Cr Kennedy waa appointed to represent the Council at the opening of the International Exhibition at Christoburob. In view of the great destruction of fruit by small birds, it was resolved to offer twopence per dozen for th 9 eggs of small birds, excluding starliugs and native birds, and threepence per dozen for heads. It was resolved to discontinue work at the footpath near the railway station. Arrangements were made for the inspector to be present when Mr Dawson examines the cables of the suspension bridge on Mauriceville South Road. At the suggestion of Cr tleckler it was decided to get some improvements effected at the big bend on the Mangamahoe Road at Mr D. H. Kutherford's frontage. It was also decided to employ an extra man on Dace's Road for a week. The Clerk was Instructed to direct the attention of the inspector of Noxious Weeds to broom growing on therailway all through the distriot. Cr M. Kennedy gnvo notice of motion that he will move at. next meet' ing that it is desirable that the office be changed to a moie central and accessable site near the Railway Station and Post Office. The annual meeting ot the Counoil will he held on Wednesday, November 28th, and it was resolved to adjourn the next ordinary meeting of the Council to the same day as the annual meeting. Accounts amounting to £133 5s lOd were passed for payment.
