There whp a good attendance of buyers; the competition wrs butter than at last sale and the decline in sheepskins theo recorded was recovered. Hides were in demand nod tallow sold well at a futther advance of 6d per owt. Although prices seem high, yet we think tbey may advanoe still further, and there is no symptom at present of an immediate decline. •HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. WELLINGTON, October 80. The Department ot Industries and Commerce has received the following cable trora the High Commissioner, dated London, October 27 th: —The mutton market is very firm, as small shipments are expected from New Zealand for some time. The average >ptfce tor Canterbury mutton is 4j^d; North Island, 4d; River Plate. 3gd; Australian, 3£d per lb. There is a good demand for all iamb, on account of the fine weather. The average price for all brands is 4|d. The beef market is very firm. Hind quarters are quoted at 4d, and forequarters at Chilled beef from River Plate is selling at lower rates than those ruling for New Zealand shipments. The butter market is steady, but the demand is only ■moderate. This season's Australian is • selling at 115s. Danish is quoted at 1225, and Siberian at 106s per cwt. The cheese market is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers. Canadian makes are quoted at 635. The hemp market is very firm, and prices are strong on the London market. Eeports from Manila indicate that only light shipments are expected from there. - G.F.A.Q. Wellington on spot is quoted at i:36 58. October-December shipments ,£36, and January-March at £'6s 10s per ton. Pair current Manila on spot is quoted at £42 10s per ton. The ■ cocksfoot seed market is quiet, but there is a better demand for bright clean dressed 171b seed, which is quoted at 44s per cwt.
