MASTERTON RACING CLUB.
SPRING MEETING. The Spring Meeting of the Masterton .Racing Club wbs commenced on the Club's oonrse at Opaki, yeßterday, in fine weather. The eight events set dojvu for decision drew out good fields, and the racing was very interesting. One cr two of the raues resulted in close finishes. 0. Jenkins rode three winners. The aom of £6,517 was put through the totalisator, as against £5,14G for the corresponding day of v the Spring Meeting last year, an increase of £1,371. Mr Thos. Duncan, secretary, bad all tbo arrangements for the meeting complete. He was ably assisted by au energetic, body of stewards, and by Mr W. Gillespie. Rangitoto took command of the field, and led over the first hurdlp. Enteiing the straight Rangitotu's nearest attendant was Needlework, but the field had not gone very far when Faro went to the front. Passing the stand the order was Faro, Rangitoto, Te Kanui, Needlework, Le Vent and Silverlene. Faro led out of the straight, and at the back he was BtUI in command wiith Te Kanui, Needlework and Rangitoto bunched behind, him. At the willows Rangitoto had moved up, anl was raomg on even terms with the leader. Faro had a slight advantage over hts opponent when the straight was reaobeii, but in the run home Faro showed his superiority and finished three lengths ahead of Rangitoto, who was the same distance in front of Needlework. Jolly Friar was the quickest on bis feet, and with Narootio close behind him he showed the way out of the straight. Further on Skye moved up .into second pos s tion with La Torpedo third. Along the back stretuh Skye went to the front with the favourite Ifing third. Near the willows Jolly Friar was again in front, but Submarine soon passed him, and led the field into the straight. The colt was never troubled, and won as he liked by two lengths. Three lengths separated the second and third horses. Time, 2min lOseo. Totalisator, 809. Dividends, £1 19s and £3 Is.

Hlaok Angel was left at the post, :Lebeeoio went away to tho front, and led for a short distance; then Glengowrie and Full Bate took charge. Lomaiia came away at the distance, and joined Glengowrie. When the willows were reached Firestick was displaced by Faro, who was the first to enter the straight. The favourite, Weary Bill, and Hoity Tolfcy were close behind Faro and going well.
