POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB. By Telegraph—Press Association. GISBORNE, October 22. The following aoneptanoes have been received for events'to be run ut the Poverty Bay lurf Club's spring meeting:— Spring Handicap. Pink 'Un, Cavalry, Gaiety, Gladsmuir. Hardies. Medallist, Morpeth, Rose Plot, Flume, Bullvvortb. Flying.—Pink 'Un, Soultina, Gladsmuir, Ladylike, Gaiety, Lee Enfield, Maraugai. TURF NOTES. (13y Zetland). With satisfactory woathflr conditions to-morrow there should be a large attendance at the Ma terton Racing Club's meeting. The course is in splendid order, and some fast times should be recorded as a number of the performers are capable of mustering up a lot of pace. The arrangements in connection with the meeting are all well forward. The following candidates are suggested as likely to score iu their respective engagements:— Hack Hurdles -- Silverlene and Needlework. Maiden Hack—Star Queen and Glengowrie. Flying Hack -Pytubley and bherlook Holmes. Masterton Cup—Submarine and Rosea'. Publican's Handicap. Maui and Kosegrove. Ladies' Brauelet. Faro and Tiwha. October Hack—Aeolus and Wailethe. Dash Handicap.—Lord Soult and Pytohley. Very satisfactory nominations hare been received for the TaratahiCartevton meeting, which will take place on November 9th and 10th. The majority of entrants will be seen out at Opaki this we°k, and their running will to a certain extent give an idea of their prospects at laratabi. The hurdle races have filled exceptionally well, and as the nominations for the open events include horses of§a good class ttiere should be some excellent racing. mare, Wild Cat, has been nominated in hurdle events to be run at the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting. The Chief Commander gelding, Sen Sim, who has been a disappoint ing performer on the flat is to be tried at hurdle racing. Mr W. E. Bid.viit will be represented at the Canterbury meeting by Declination and Elevation. Both aro very well at present and with ordinary luck may score wins. Letherin is doing satisfactory ■work at Riccartou. So far he has not executed any sensational galJopß, bat judging by the way he is running with well tried performers his condition is such that he should be depended upon tn rnn a really good race in the New Zealand Cup. In the latest betting quotations for the New Zealand Cup Paritutu heads the list at the absurdly short price of 4 to 1, Multifid is quoted at a point longer, and Armistice at 6 to 1. Most of the straight-out heiting has now been booked, and it cannot be expected that much business will be registered at the present short prices. Lyrist will be ridden in the New Zealand Cup by D. Price. W. Young will have the mount on Letherin, 0. Jenkins on Ghoorak, S. Reid will ride St. Joe, L. Wilson Landwern, while it is reported that L. H. Hewitt will pilot Multifld. Several Masterton sportsmen will leave next week for Ohristohmoh to take part in the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting.
A Wairaraoa sportsman approaohed the Hon, J. D. Ormond last week relative Jo purchasing either intelligence, Gold«n Gate or Eona, but no business resulted.
