VALEDICTORY.
(From a Correspondent). At the Victoria Hall, Carterton, en Friday evening last, the congregation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church gathered to bid "Godspeed" to Mr P. Feist and family, who are leaving Carterton, and propose touring the Old Country. The Rev. J. id. Bates occupied the ohair, and there were about two hundred persons present. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. 0. Bucbauan, E. Feist, A. J. Reynolds, and A. Nicol. Mr Feist haß been very actively connected with the congregation ever since the church was established, over eighteen years ago. Most of the time be has held the; offices of elder, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, and has been a member of the committee of managers, a'member of the oentral oommittee, and local general treasurer. He has been a very libera] supporter of the church, and an earnest Christian worker, and his place will be hard to fill. Mrs Feist, too, was one of the cfauroh's hardest workers. During the course of an enjoyable evening, * the Chairman, on behalf of the congregation of the church, presented Mr Feist with a hand-somely-framed illuminated address; Mr and Mrs Feiat with a beautiful marble clock suitably inscribed; and Miss Feist with a silver-mounted brash and comb aud silver tray. On behalf of the choir, Mr Feist was also presented with a silvermounted walking stiok and Church Hymnary. Speeches were made hy the Chairman, Mr MoFarlane, and Dr Johnstone. During the evening songs wure rendered by Misses E. Armstrong and M* Bromng(enoored), Mrs Ginger, Mr W. Moore (encored), and Rev. B .H. Ginger. Mr Giaham also gave a recitation. Refreshments were provided by Mesdames Burnett, Bates, Fisher, Johnstone, MoFarlane and Telford, and a uumber of the young ladies of the ohoir. After Sunday (School, yesterday afternoon, Mr Feiat was the recipient of a large photograph of the Sunday School children, teachers, Rev. Mr Bates, and the Church and Manse.
