SUICIDE ON RANGITOTO ISLAND.

Inspector Cullen reoeived a brief note, dated Ootober 14th, and signed "Charles Leitoh, alias Charles Pollard," stating that the writer's dead body wouldgbe found on the summit of Rangitoto. , Ihe letter was worded as follows: —."To tbe Chief of Police Auckland, —On 'the top of Rangitoto will be found my dead body. Please deal with;it as yonr laws direct.—Charles Leitoh, alias Charles Pollard."
'awo constables set out for the island at 7 o'clock this morning, and returned shorljr before 3 o'clock, bringing with ;hem tbe deadjbody of Leitoh, which they hadjfound at the top of the cone as indicated. ' His throat was nut, the jugular vein being severed, and in his right handjjhe held a razor. He was also severely out about the abdomen. Seven yards away from where the dead body was lyiug was a wooden cross, sft 6in in Height, upon whioh the following was inscribed:—"Even though it be a cress.'" The cross was smothered in blood, and it is presumed that the deceased cut his throat while lebning cross. In one of the deceased's pockets a note addressed to the coroner was found, explaining thai; the reason for the deed was to bring Into prominence a work he had written dealing'with human personality.
