MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING.
The Mayor (Mr J. A. Kenall) presided over the ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, last evening. The other members present were: —Crs J. H. Pauling, J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, W. Mcrris, E. Q. Eton, J. C. Ewington, E. Feist and E. MoEwen. The Wairarapa Caledonian Society wrote asking for the use of the Park Oval to bold a sports gathering oa January Ist, 1907. On the motion of Or Morris, seconded by Cr Eton, the aplioation was granted on tbe usual conditions. Mr V. Petersen wrote applying for a boarding-house license for the premises known as the Temperance Hotel, Masterton. Tbe application i was granted.
With reference to the construction of the footpath in South Road the Oounty Clerk wrote stating that the County Council had given its consent to tbe construction of tbe footpath on tbe understanding that one-half of the cost of the proposed work was contributed by tbe residents of the street, and that tbe amount thereof was lodged with the Borough Counoil before tbe work is proceeded with. The Council decided to obtain tbe signature of every resident in the street before proceeding with the work.
When the report of tbe Works Committee oame up for adoption Cr Temple moved to delete that part of tne report granting Mr to'. Caselberg an extra water servioe to his property in Worksop Ruad. The mover did not think that Mr M. Caselberg should have been granted the extra servioe when other applicants had teen charged extra for extra connections C l ' Morris seconded the motion. On a division being taken five Councillors voted for the motion and four against it. The Mayor said that he would not give his decision on tbe motion until Or Hoar, who was absent from the meeting, bad voted. A report was received from the Borough Engineer stating that the want of horses and carts was seriously hampering the work now in hand. He recommended that six horses and three drays be purchased at once. With regard to tbe applications for licenses from several storekeepers to store kerosene and explosives the Engineer was of opinion that tbe by-laws should be amended no as to state definitely tbe kind of store required, and bow far it must be detaohed. Mr Hobson recommended that a' report should be made by the Inspector of Nuisances on the amount of this class of goods in stock in business premises in tbe Borough. The Counoil adopted the Engineer's report with regard to the purchase of horsus and drays, and Cr MoEwen was authorised to purchase tbe horses when required.. It was decided to call tenders for three drays. The portion of the report referring to the storing of kerosene and explosives was referred to tbe Works Committee.
On the motion of Or 'lemple, the Committee, already appointed to denl with tbe supplying of water to resideuts outside tho Borough, was instructed to take into consideration the question of extraordinary supply.
