ENFRANCHISEMENT OF WOMEN.
THE POSITION IN BRITAIN,
Received Ootober 15, 8.3 a.m. LONDON, Ochober 14. Mr Asquith, Chancellor of the Exchequer, in reply to a deputation of suffragettes at Lady bank, said the probable results, whether for good or evil, of the enfranchisement of worsen were much exaggerated, but be did not believe the majority of women desired the right to vote. He added that be was unable to withdraw his opposition to the measure giving women the franchise.
