WAIRARAPA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the members of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society was held in tbe Club Hotel, on Saturday afternoon. Mr J. B. McKenzie occupied the chair, Hnd there were about 30 other members present.

The following new members were electeJ:—Messrs G. D. McFarlane, C. A. Tabatoau, J. Miller, Farquhar Gray, Walter Dailey: The action of the Secretary and President in voting the sum of £3 3s to a distressed piper in .Wanganui was wndorse'd.

The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £3B Is 2d. The assets consisted of sports deposit, £209 lis lid; oonoert deposit, £123 16s 9d;< aocrued interest, £4 7e sd; and a marquee valued at £ls, making a total of nearly £4OO. Tho President, in moving the adoption.gof tbe annual report and balance-sheet, referred to the strong position of the Society and its rapid growth sinoe Mr • Tbos. Ounoan had been secretary of the Society. When Mr Dunuan waa elected secretary in 18y8 tne Society had a debit balance of about £24. He traced the growth of the Society until the present date, when the Society had a credit balance of nearly £4OO. The success of the Society was greatly due to Mr Duncan's efforts. The incoming directors would have to elect a new secretary, as Mr Duuoau was about to leave the district. TbiS'wasan important duty, and one in whioh great caution would have to be exercised.

Mr F. Hill seconded the motion, which was carried, mm The following officers were elected: —President, Mr J. H. Pauling; Vice-Presidents, Messrs T. Wyetfa audJ. MoHattie; Treasurer, Mr J2. E. Chamberlain; Auiitor, iYlr R. Brown; Directors, Messrs J. C. MoKillop, D. Guild, J. B. MoKenzie, W. Sellar, I». Cameron, H. J. Dagß, R. Gray, P. Hill, G. Heron, A. Mutrie, Jas. MoKouzie, T. P. Lett, P. F. Day, D. MaLaoblan, J. Strang, W. d" Wataun, G. Stewart, A. MoLeod, A. Praser, J McLean, J. Harvey, G. MoHattie, E, H. Waddlußton and W. L. Falconer. Mr T. Duncan intimated his intention of reslguing the position of secretary at the next meeting of the director. He thanked the members for the courtesy extended to him during his term of office as secretary, and hoped the Sooiety would have a prosperous future. Several mem bora spoke in eulogistio terms of Mr Duncan's services as secretary sinoo 1898, and considered that the present position of the Sooiety was to a lartje extent due to Mr Duncan's efforfcß. They expressed regret at losing so able an ofßofir, and thought that Mr Duncan's services should be recognised in some manner.

On the motion ,of Mr Seller, Mr Duncan was eleoted a honorary life member of the Society, and it ovas deoided to instruct the directors to reooguise Mr Duncan's services in a substantial manner. '.the resignation of Mr M. C. O'Oonuoll was accepted. It was stated tlmt Mr Butler, of the Martin borough Hotel, had donated a trophy valued at £2 2s for the best maldou piper, and Mr H. W. Clay, of Morrison's tfusb, a trophj valued nfc £1 Is for the winner of the raaidon Highland Fling at the Society's next sports g&tberiug. A vote of thanks to the retiring President concluded the meeting.
