In his new undertaking he is materially aided by an American heiress, the ironmaster's danghter, and in gratitude declares his love. Then, through the adroit machinations [of an envious schemer, his bride-elect becomes the victim of a vile slander, and the result is that between mercantile troubles and the perplexities of love poor Dick and his sweetheart find themselves on the verge of despair. There are many highly dramatic episodes and an abundance of striking incidents. The story is certainly one of the most brilliant it has been our good fortune to peruse.
