INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION.

By Telegraph—Press Association. OBRISTCHUROH, October 12. One of the moat regrettable circumstancea in connection with the Exhibition was brought to light, today, when it was found on opening the oases that no fewer than 18 pleoea of ornamental statuary, prooared by Sir Joseph Ward during his recent visit to Rome, were hopelessly broken and damaged. Some 25 cases yet remain to be examined, bat there is no ground fqr hoping that these have fared any better than the others. 'JLhe paoking of the statuary was , most inefficient, and in many instances oasts had been simply thrast into the oases, a small sprinkling of shavings placed on top and battens nailed across. The affair is all the more to be regretted on account of the Committee's expectation to make an imposing display of statuary in the grand ball and main aorridor.
