OBITUARY.

MR F. C. DUPRE. Mr d l . 0. Da pre, well-known in Masterton, died at bis residence, Ohurob Street, at about 9 e-'olook, yesterday morning. The deceased bad heen in failing health for some time past, and it was through illhealth that he relinquisbied his business in Oarterton about two months ago. The late Mr Dupre was 64 years of age, being born In Westpfalen, Germany, in 1812. In 1861 he came to New Zealand and settled down in Greymoutb, where he aarried on a large jewellery business. Id Greymoutb Mr Dupre. tooK a prominent part in public affairs. He was Mayor ia 1884, and also at various times a member of the Harbour Board, Hospital Board and other publio bodies,. After spending 34 years in the West Coast Mr Dupre with his family came to Masterton, where he carried on business as a jeweller for a short time. He then removed to Carterton, and was engaged in business in that town up till about two months ago. Though Mr Dupre did not enter publio life in the Wairarapa he was a familiar figure in Masterton and Carterton, and he gained the respect, of a large circle of friends, who will sinoerely regret his demise. He leaves a widow, two sons and tbree daughters to mourn their loss. The funeral will leave his late residence, Chtiroh' Street, at 3 p.m., to-morrow.
