Then, through the adroit machinations [of an envious schemer, his bride-elect becomes tho victim of a vile slander, and the result is that between mercantile troubles and the perplexities of love poor Dick ana his sweetheart find themselves on the verge of despair. There are many highly dramatic episodes and an abundance of striking incidents. The story is certainly one of the mcst brilliant it has been our good fortune to peruse.
