MASTERTON STOCK SALES. Messrs Dalgety aud Co., Ltd., : held their sale at the Masterton j yards on Wednesday, when about 500 I head of cattle and 800 sheep were ' submitted. In man? instances the quality ot the cattle aid not suit the ! buyers, and bidding was oonse- ' quently dull, though all good sorts : were sold subsequently. Add to this fact the poor conditions of the bulk of the eutries and the soaroitv of feed, a luruo proportion failed *to sell under the hammer. There was only a email quantity of wool cfferlnc, but a large entry of •2 400 skins, 500 hides and a fanentry of tallow. Prices for skins were easier, as compared with last sale bv K& p« Ib - HUUs were . strongly competed for, but many of the hides were badly saved. Farmers in this district seem very slow to learn the value of this by product. The loss from faulty flaying and nonsalting of bides must run into n considerable sum annually. Hides: Thete were no extra good lineß offering, tut ox and cow of fair weight and condition realised from 24s to 29a, dead and slippy hides up ti 255, calf skins Is 6d to ss. Tallow: In casks 20s to 235, in tins 16s to 19a per cwt. Horsehair: Is Gd to Is 7d per lb.' Horns: 6s tn 18s per 100. Our next sale will bo held, on November 21st, at 12.30 p.m. The Wairarapa Farmers' 00-oper ative Association, Ltd., in conjunction with Messrs Dalgety 'andgOo., held their monthly sale of wool, sfcins, hides and tallow, yesterday. Tney report: Wo offered seven bales of crutchiugs, 50 bags wool, 3,250 sheepskins aud a quantity of rabbit skins, horsehair, tallow and SOO hides and calf skins. There was a) good attendance of buyers, and bidding was keen. Prices as compared with our last sale showed a slight fall in sheepskins from Id to We quote prices venlised:— Wooh Crossbred fleece crntchto dead wool 5%d to B%d. Skins,: Good orossbreds to Bd, dead skins to 7J4d, dead hoggots €#3 to 7d, lambskins 5d to s}£d, green skins 4s 6d to 7s Bd, pelts In Cd to 2a 6d. Horse hair, Is 9d per lb. Rabbit skins B>2d'to Tallow: Good demand at advancing prices. In cask*, 23s (3d per owt, in tins I7s 9d per owt. Hides: We are pleased to state that there was a record entry of hides, and calfskins, and the prices realised were hotter thin at the previous sale. We quote:—Best ox from 27s to 38s 6d, medium ox 25s to 28s 6d, light ox 17s to 21s 6d, cowa 17s to 25a, bulls . 21s to 245, yearling* 5s to 7a 9d, calf skins la 9d to 3s 3d, inferior and damaged hides at low rates. The next sale is fixed for November 21st.
