LIGHT LINE RAILWAY.

MASTERTON TO WAIPUKURAU. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, October 10. ' The residents of Pongaroa have despatched a deputation to wait on the Ministers and urge the construction of a railway between Masterton and Waipukurau on the WellingtonNapier line. Members of the deputation are now in town arranging for an interview. It appears that the line proposed was favourably reported upon by Mr Dobson, of the Publio Works Department, between four and five years ago. Since then the district through which the line wilj pass hag made great progress, sawmills, dairy factories and other industiies being established. A great want of the country is good roads, and owing to the want of metal these cannot be constructed except at enormous oost. Hence the desire for a loopline of railway as early as possible.
