MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Council was neld on Saturday, the 20th nit. Present— Crs. Kumnier, (chairman). i)agg, Heckler, Jackson, Wall and Kennedy. A letter was received from the Palmeraton North Chamber of Commerce asking the Council to pass a resolution requestiug the Government to give notice to take over the Wellington and Manawatu Bailway. A resolution expressing sympathy with the object the Chamber has in view was passed. Cr. JacKson dissenting. A letter was received from the County Solicitor, and Department of Boads notifying tbe Council that the control of the Suspension Bridge over the Euamahariga had been vested in the Masterton Council, find tbe cost of maintenance will will be equally divided between Masterton and Manriceville. W. A. Miller wrote asking permission to grazo stock on the road fronting his section. —Tbe Council was unable to entertain the request. H. W. Watson wrote re transfer of lease of reserve at Hastwell from G. Williams to him.—Transfer approved. A letter was received Lars Ltirsen askiDg that the wntertabies on the road giutng access to nis property be cleaned. —Or. Heckler was appointed to attend to tbe matter. A letter was received from the District Eailway Eng'neer stating that when the formation of the footpath onthe road near Mauriceville Railway Station is Rone on with he will have the fence lifted as required. The Secretary to the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society wrote aFking that the day on which the Society's Show is to be hold be observed as r Holiday.—lt is decided to invite the ratepayers to keen Wednesday, 21st inst. as the weekly ha't holiday instead of Thursday. F. Martin, coachbuilder, wrote requesting that trees growing on the road nsar his shop be removed as they hid his shop from persons approaching from the Eailway Station.—lnstructions were given to notity Mr. Hoffeina to cut the trees referred to down. Mr G.Seymour was appointed Inspector of works, nnd all employees working on tbe roads will be placeo under his direction. Instructions were given to notify Messrs Coradine and Whittaker, Sawmillers and, Mr C. C. Carroll, Limeburner, to put the sections ot roads tinder their charge in order. The Balance Sheet, as certified by the Controller aud Auditor-General was adopted. The bridge over the Makakahi Kiver at Kaiparofo was reported to be in need of repairs and painting as the bridge is situated on the County boundary.—-In-structions were given to bring the matter under toe notice of tbe Eketahuna County Council. Accounts amounting to £ll7 19s wero passed for payment.
