The quarterly return of the business rtoue at the Masteitou Magistrate's Court bLios's that the total unraber of sittings during the quarter was 60. The number of sifcHugs presided over fcy a Stipendiary Magistrate was 34, and tbe number presided over by Justices of the Peace was 26. The number of civil cases heard by a Stipendiaiy Magistrate was 40; the number of applications heard in Court or Chambers 20, number of orders made (other than on judgment summous) 14, number of plaints entered 139, number of distress warriiuts issued 26, number of judgment summonses issued 25, number ot nrdors made on judgment saiiiDifiiS 4, number of warrants of committal issued 3, number of summonses and other processes nerved hy the bailiff 139, number cf distroes warrants executed by *he bailiff 18, number of warrants of committal executed by the bailiff 3. The aggregate amount sued for was £l,lll 5s 10(1, and the aggregate amouut recovered was £746 12a lOd. The amount of uivil fees paid in stamps was £Bl Gs, and the amount of licensing fees paid in stamps was £2 4s. The total number of persons takeu into custody, summoned or apprehended was 129 (122 males, 7 females). Of these 19 (18 males and 1 female) were discharged for want of prosecution or want of evidence, 2 males were dismissed on the merits, 3 males were committed for trial, 88 (86 males, 2 females) were summarily convicted, and J7 (13 males and 4 females) were otherwise dealt with. The amount of criminal fees paid in stamps was £lO 18s ;6d, and the amount of fi'ies paid in stamps was £4B 18s.
