CHARITABLE AID.

By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, October 2. At the meeting of the Wellington \Benevolenfc Trustees the following letter from the Wellington and Wairarapa Charitable Aid Board waa read:—"My Board is desirous of boring before it a report upon the administration of charitable aid throughout the whole of the Welliugtnn and Wairarapa district ' under its .jurisdiction. To this end the Board purposes to appoint one | or more inspectors to furnish such j a report, which, when available will, I it is hoped, be of assistance to all i local bodies which act as the [ board's distributing agents of I charitable aid. 1 shall be glad to [ know that your trustees will fall inwith the wishes of my Board by giv- ! ing our inspectors every facility to enquire into your Board's administration and methods of financial control." j The Rev. Evans moved that facilities be given the Charitable Aid I Board for investigating expenditure. He wolcomed the suggestion that an inspector be appointed. This was seconded by Mr Hogg, who expressed regret that statements had beeu circulated through the press which cast a very serious imputation upou those responsible for the administration of tho affairs of the Benevolent Trustees—an imputation apparently without the slightest foundation in fact, j The Chairman (Rev. Elliott) ! quoted from an official return showing that the total decrease in the Board's expenditure in nine yoßrs was £1,500 giving a yearly average decrease of £l6O 12s Bd. Mr Hogg agreed that the Board's rate of expenditure was reasonable. The tootiou was carr ed. (A copy of the above letter was received at the meeting of the Masterton Borough Council last evening. The letter was referred to the Benevoieut Society).
