ALBERT STREET CREEK.
A PETITION PROM PROPERTY OWNERS.
A petition * was received at the meeting of the Masterton Borough Works Committee', last evening, signed by several property owners in Albert Street, asking that the oreek in that'street be diverted from its present course along the eatertables into Chapel Street. The petitioneis stated that the stream was a soarce of pollution, and was dangerous to health. The Mayor pointed out that the petition did, not bear the signature, of the Trust Lands Trustees, who were owners of some of the property affected, and any deoision arrived at by the Council would be subject to that signature being obtained. Cr Hoar did not think that there would be any difficulty in obtaining the signature of Mr C. E. Daniell, Chairman of the Trust. The Engineer estimated the oost of the work at £4 10s a chain for channelling and £2 10s a chain for kerbing, the gross cost being about £7 10s per chain. ''' 5£wS5E Cr Hoar said that the stream was a regular cesspool, and he hoped that no Councillor would stand in the way of the work being carried out, as it was urgently needed. It was stated that there was £IOO on the loan schedule for the diversion of the oreek in Bentley Street, and the money for carrying out the present work could be of that amount. Or Ewington favoured diverting the oreek in Bentley Street first. On the motion of Or Morris, it was decided to carry out the work of diverting the Albert Street creek, subject to the signature of*the Trust Lands Trustees beingj obtained to the petition.
