RACING.

TURF NOTES. (By Zetland). The only Wairarapa horses nominated for the Mhrlbotough Meeting are jjilkeu Rein and Pal i Pati, which are trained by H. Fletcher, at Oiareville. Pati Pati is a chestnut mare by Apremont— Flatter, and is therefore a full sister to that good performer, Palaver. Owners of thoroughbred stallions aro apparently not anxious to show them at the Horse Parades this year, At the Mastertou Parade none were exhibited, while at Carterton, ou Saturday, only Saracen, Mausei, and Knight Erratic were shown. Th nse uf the public from other districts in attendance would bo apt to think that very little interest is taken in the I reeding of the noble thoroughbred bore, and it is to ha hoped that next year greater impoitiuice will bo attached to the matter of exhibiting more freely at the Puvadee. It is understood that T. Roes, trainer of Wailethe and Mntakokiri, will train his horses at Martinborough in future. Submarine, one of M. McGratn's Opaki team, was taken through to Waugauui, last week, to oonif.ete at tho Spring Moetinu, which commences to-morrow. The woik of enlarging the tea pavilion at the 'lauhoronikau course is now well in hand. 'lhe tracks have boen well looked after by the Club's custodian, and the course proper will be iu fine condition for the New Tear meeting. Good work is now being done on

the Tauherenikau traoks, and the majority of horses there will be well forward for the Musterton Meeting next month. J. Ayers has Naptha, St. Branden, and Star Queen looking decidedly well. T. Ross has Matabokiri and Wailethe doing strong wurk. Both of these should pay their way this season. La Torpedo, a New Zealand Gup candidate, is being prepared fcy.T. C. White. The little mare has never looked better, and it is quite probable that she may be a starter in the big event at Riccarton on November 3rd. Hoity Toity is galloping well on the'traoks. She is to be kept at flat racing for a time, and, judging by her form at the recent Hunt Club Meeting, should win races. A.- McPherson's team consists of Lavinia, Lady Lethe, and a gelding by Saracen— Blenheim. The latter is a close relative to Oudenarde. Olem and Sen Sim are receiving their preparation at the hands of K. MoKenzie, and Aboriginal, who has been freely nominated for the next Canterbury Jockey Club Meeting, is executing his tasks in fine style. A roll; foal by Birkenhead—Merganser, the most recent addition to Mr. B. Tiison's stud at Ponatabi, is one of the most fashionably-bred equities yet owned in this district. Merganser, by Nordenfeldt—Albatross, was one of the best performers in the colony, while in breeding Birkenhead, who is by Orme—< Tragedy, cannot be surpassed.
