Dalgety and Company Limited, Wellington, report having held their sale in their Upper Hut,t yards on Thursday, thw 20th instant, the yarding comprising a fall entry of oatfcle, but only a saiall number of sheep. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following oablegram from the High Commie- ' aioner, dated London, September u2nd:— The hemp market; .shows quiet business. Wellington on the spot is quoted at £33 10a to £34 10s per ton. The same quotation applies to Ootober and Deuember shipments. The priie for current Manila on the spot to day is £4l. There ia some change for the better in New Zealand mutton. The average price for Canterbury mutton is 3%d to 3%d per lb; North Island brands, to 3%d, best brands are quoted at 3%d to 3 7-16 d; Australian, 3%d; and River Plate,3Js'd per lb. Stocks on hand are light. A better tone 'prevails in the lamb market, which haa a hardening tendency. The average price of Canterbury brand lamb is—light, 4%d, medium, 49jjd; heavy, 4 7-16 d; other than Canterbury, 4%d per lb. The beef market is much steadier. The average price for hindquarters 3%d, and forequarters per lb. River Plate teef, foreqaarfcers 2}f>d, hindquarters 3 9-16 d. j
