A DEADLY COMBINATION.
A few striking examples of the class of verdiot coroners' juries are oapable of arriving at were giveu during the debate in tbe House on the Estimates on Friday evening, but tfao most remarkable was undoubtedly that retailed by Mr Wilford. It was the case of a young man who shot himself at Auckland some years ago. At the time be ended his life be was worn out with, an aftaob oil measles, and his mind was alsp disturbed over some love affair. He could only describe the decision arrived as "tbe apotheosis of bunkum." The jury decided that "deceased came by his death through jealousy and measles 1" (Laughter). Mr A. W. Hogg also condemned the coroner's jury. If a person decided to die with the assistance of a doctor—(laughter)— why should a coroner's jury have to sit on him? "Sit on him?" queried another member. "Yes, 1 consider it is an infringement on tbe liberty of the subject," Mr Hogg retorted, eminently satisfied with his little joke.
