A Dnnedm telegram states that, acting on the advice of the President of the Arbitration Court, the Plumbera' and Gasfittera' Union and the master plumbers met in conference, and agreed on a settlement of the matters in dispute. Mr Justice Chapman, in congratulating the parties 011 the result, said it would always be found that when parties agreed in this way after discussion, the awards were mora faithfully oberved than when they were forced on tbem. The tramways dispute will be taken on Monday, and will probably last several days. The officers of the inspection of Maohinery Department last year overhauled 5,211 steam boilers, this number beinc; in excess of the previous year 1 s work. The inspectors visited every part of the colony, and discovered some 1,350 sericus defects in boilers and fittings. The total number of now boilers registered in the colony last year was 355, their total horse-power being G,981. Of these new boilers, 194, of a total borse-power of b,703, were made in the oolouy; the rest were imported; 932 gas engines and 413 oil engines were inspected, and 324 water motors, 428 lifts and 268 hoists and motors were examined. Special inspections were made of maohinery, and 835 certificates were issued. Tht grand total of machinery inspections made during the year was 3,200.
