MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
PARK COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Masterton Park Committee was held last eveuing. There were present—Crs Ewington (chairman), Temple, Hoar, Elliott and Morris. It waa decided to temporarily secure the Dixon Street fence, and to enquire aa to the cost of tree lucerne for hedge planting, and to ask the Engvicor to give au estimate of the cost, of putting up a ne* fenc«. Mr A W. Hogg, M.11.H., wrote stating that the vestinK in the Conucil ot the 19 acres of the Education Reserve adjoining the Park is ißoluded iu the Special Powers and Vesting Eill which nas teen printed. TheY.M.C.A. Cricuet Club wrote applying for the use of a practice pitch and permission to play matohes on the Oval. The matter was held over until a future meeting when all applications for the uso of the Oval for cricket purposes will be dealt with. In the meantime the Committee considered it advisable that the Y.M.C.A. Club should join a Cricket Association. An application was received from the St. Patrick's bpoits Association for the use of the Oval on Maroh 14th, 1907. Consideration of the applicaciota was deferred. Or Temple submitted a plan of a tea-room and cloak-room, which uould be erected in the Park at a cost of from £125 to £l5O. It was thought that gifts of material might be obtained and a working bee oould erect the building. Cr Hoar offered to give a marble slao with the words "Tea Kiosk" on it, and to be sen in the front of the proposed building. The offer was accepted with thauks. It was decided that "it is advisable at a later date to call a meeting of' townspeople interested to form a Park Improvement and Town Beautifying Committee to assist iu erecting the tea kiosk, and affect other improvements to the town, including a recommendation of the Chairman to improve the track to • Mt. Holdsworth. The Town Clerk was instructed to 1 write to the Woodville, Hawera and other Borough Councils for information regarding the erection of bathing sheds. It was resolved to write to the Featherston County Counoil for some basket willows to plant in the Park The Committee arranged to meet at 9 o'clook this morning in the Park to discuss matter* in connection with the trees at the oemetery gates near the morgue; also, as to planting .willows for protective purposes V.fc the end of Dixon Street near the stop bank, and to examine the state of the rnad in front of the main gates, where culverts had recently been taken up. The. Town Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Hogg with reference to the suggested scenic reserve on the banks of the Waipoua River.
