OTAGO v. MANAWATU. PALMERSTON N., Sept. 12. The representative football match, Manawatu v. Otago, played here, to-day, was wou by Manawatu by 6 pointß to 3. MoKenzio scored for this visitors as the result of a scramble on the line, and Winiata and Skelley scored for Manawatu. The best team undoubtedly won. (Otago had a very weak team in the field, as they are saving their best players for the match against Wellington on Saturday.) OTAGO v. SYDNEY UNIVERSITY. VICTORY FOR OTAGO. DUNEDIN, September 12. The football match Sydney University v. the Olago team, was played on the Caledonian Ground, to-day, under the most favourable conditions, and resulted in a wiu for Otago by six points to three. The visitors had tne advantage of a fairly strong breeze in the fh'Bt spell, but failed to make use of the opportunity, and were on the defensive for the greater part of the time. In this spell Whelan scored a try for Otago. Early in the second spell Sibbald scored another try for the home team, and towards the finish Jamea Hughes scored for Sydney, after a good pieoe of forward play. The «x----hibition given by Sydney was again disappointing, the players evidently lacking stamina. Except for a brief interval in the second spell, when their forwards showed some dash, they were outclassed and rarely looked like sooring. The defence
was weak, and the team lacked combination and energy. Otago played fairly well, and but for inaccurate I passing, would probably have compiled a big score. OLD BOYS MATCH. NELSON, September 12. The visitors showed gene.al superiority, and won by 13 points to nil. Guthrie scored in the first spell, hut Kirk failed to convert. In thu second spell Biggwither and Dtugall ouch scored a , try, Saunders converting both.
