AN OLD MASTERTONIAN.
A correspondent writes as fol-lows-.—A wedding that nttrauted a great deal of attention in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A., on July 4th, wan that of Mr J. E. Wiltou, of Masterton to Miss Ivy Pepita Cerda Richardson, of Barnard Castle, England. The extracts from the Portland papers, wtiicrj Mr Wilton sent to his relatives in Masterton show how well the N*w Zealanders are holding their own in other laDds. Residents of Masterton will remember Mr Wiltou, one of the old "Star" hoys, V2 or 15 years ago, and he was one of the printers who visited Australia in the '9o's. He was associated with Alfred MoKain, another of the "Star" hoys, ou the Adelaide "Critic." Besides living in Melbourne, Sydcey and Adelaide, be spent some years in Westprn Australia, in the early "cold" days. He visited England in '9B, and the priucipal European cities. Returning to Australia he found time to return to Mastorton to 'he golden wedding of his parents, about five years sgo. After t.'ie Boer war he went through South Africa, and lived for some time in Johannes hurg. Leaving there for America, be went to St. Helen-, Las Pal mas, and Santa Crnz, and then ou to Lon don, via Canada and the States. He met his bride while on this tour, she then being a pupil of Signor Barn, in London, and besides being a singer, she speaks three languages. Her early life was spent in Barcelona, Spain, where sue was born. Latterly she lived in Loudon, and on the of her pareuts, with her uncle at Barnard Castle, Yorkshire, England. Mr Wilton has beau successfully engaged in business in the States, and the happy couple will make their h.me in Portland, the "Rose City" of America. Their present address is 309, Benton Street, East Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. In writing to his sister, Mrs G. A. Towuseud, of Masterton, Mr Wilton says that he hopep to Qud time some day to visit New Zealand, at.d introduce his oharmiug wifo to the old friends, whom he oau never wholly forget across the Pacific.
