TOWN MILK SUPPLY
A GOOD SYSTEM OP DELIVERY. A good system of putting up milk for delivery ki cities nnd towns where trio milk is intended for human couaun.ptiou is in what is known in Denmark, United States, Britain, ai:d coiro parts of this colony, hs the iightniug-top, germproof milk jar, said Mr J. A. Kinsellft, Dairy Commissioner, la thecourse of an aiklress.at Curistohurcb. These bottles or jars are already in use in some of our towns, and tnuy rje nsed with or without the "ligbt-nmg-top." The jars ere made in sizes ranging .from half a pint to naif a gallon Imperial measure. This does away with the doubt or question of incorrect measurement from the etn.il. They are made with very widt uecks, which facilitate easy and efficient washing before they are., steamed or scalded. They are also mule of the best quality of flint glass, and will stand boiliniz or sterilising, and the percentage of breakages is thus minimised. There is also very little breakage in the handling. The jar can bo made air tight by means of a disc dipped in hoi paraffin wax; the wax hardens as soon as the disc is placed in the bottle-neck, and thus the bottle is hermetically sealed. These discs are used only once; they are odourless and germ-proof, an 1 can be purchased at a remarkably low ooft. All the washing, scalding, filling and sealing of these bottles is done by specially designed machinery. The jars can be purchased from most of the dairy supply dealers. In placing an order with the manufacturer through a dealer, the purchaser can have the name of bis daiiy,, or the namw of the company, blown in the side of the jars, if he or they desire. Sterilising ovens are also procurable; steam pipes are fitted at the bottom of the oven, and the valves are so arranged that the steam can bo turned on easily and quickly as required. The ovens are r fltted with shelves, which are moveable and oau be taken out at will With these ovens baskets are furnished to hold twelve qua<t and twenty pint bottles The baskets are made of wire netting, and securely hound togetbor. Those acquainted with the handling of bottles will understand that they can be conveyed muon more easily to and from the oven. The bottles are found to be indispen sable where enormous quantities are delivered daily in the large cities, for instance, at Home and on the Continent.
