FOOTBALL.
WAIRARAPA THURSDAY RErRESENTATIVES v. HOROWHENUA. The Wairarapa Thursday and Horowhenuh representatives met on the Showgrounds, yesterday afternoon. The weather was beautiful, and the ground in good order. The attendance of the publio was not large. The teams were as follow:—• Horowheuua Fullback, Anderson; threequartera, Watene, F. Cootea aud Rawiri; five-eighth, S. Cootes; halfback, 11. Bright (captain); wiugs, King and W. Bevan; forwards, R. Cootes, Parata, Ropita, George, R. Bevan, Freeman and Wilson. Wairarapa Follbaok, Williams; (hreequarlors, Perrin, V. Fairbrother (captain), McGuinness; fiveeighth, McKenzie, halfback, McKiunon; win 6 s, Hall and M. O'Leary; leewards, Hunter, Jackson, Leviok, Phelps, Oallister, E. Fairbrother ana Wiokeus. The visitors were a much heavier team than their opponents. Practically throughout the whole ot the first spoil the visiting team were attack me, and duiing that time they scored five tries, all of wbioh were converted; while the home team wore unable to cross their opponents' line. Sorne of the tries were the results of some sensational runs. Horowheuua won the toss, sad the home team kicked olf. Within two minutes after the commencement of play Watene took the ball as the result of Williams missing it,' aud passing to George ths latter dashed over the line. Rawiri converted. Some good work by MoKenzie and. Fairbrother transferred play to the visitor's territory for some time. Rawiri picked up the oall about the halfway line, and racing through Ihe opposing backs ended a brilliaut run by sooring under the posts. The same player ooavertod. Very shortly afterwards Bright, at half, got the ball from the scrum, and beating several men touohed dowu under the posts. Rawiri easily converted the try. Wairarapa atttaoked, and Horowhenua forced down. Play was about the centre for some time until F. Cootes took the ball and passed it to S. Oootes, who gave it to Rawiri. The latter, after a good run, scored near the prsts. He converted ths try.
In the second spell Wairarapa played a better game. Hoiowhenua attacked, and George touched down. Rawiri converted. After some give and take play about the centre Leviok kicked the ball well up into the visitors'territory, and compelled Horowbeuua to force down. The visitors' forwards took the ball away and George, after a brilliant run scored a try. Rawiri failed to convert. Again Wairarapa attacked, but VVatene, taking tbe ball from the visitors' 25, made a sensational rufl. He passed rearly all the Wairarapa team, but Williams eollared hia. in flue style. Shortly afterwards Bevan scored for the visitors. Rawiri easily converted, A few minutes after this Ropita scored another try for the visitors, and Kawiri again oonverted. Towards the end of the game Wairarapa attacked. O'Leary seoured the ball and scored Wairarapa's otily try, MoKenzie failed to convert. Just on the call of time 'I. Cootes scored for Florowhenua. Rawiri converted. The game ended with the scores:— Horowhenua ... 43 Wairarapa ... 3 Mr L. Williams was referee, and Messrs H. George and F. O'Connor were line umpires. Y.M.C.A. v. WESLEYAN BIBLE ' CLASS. Teams representing the Y.M.C.A. and Weuleyan Bible Class met on the Park Oval, yesterday afternoon. Both teams were evenly matched. A fairly evenly oontested match resulted in a win for the Y.M.C.A by 11 points to nil. The tries were scored by W. Harding, A. Dixon and Barry, cne of which was oonverted oy V. Williarrs. For the winners W. Harding and A. Parton in the forwards, and V. Williams and Barry in the backs played good games. 0. Pragnell and A, Daniell put in some good work for tbe losers. Mr J. O'Leary was referee.
On the schoolgrounds, yesterday, Old Boys defeated the High School by 12 points to nil. For the Old Boys Hooper and Waddingtou each scored tries, and Meredith who played, the best back game ou tne ground, was responsible for the winners' remaining two tries. Mr Ha si am was referee.
