MOTOR BOAT RACE. A SMART PERFORMANCE. Received August 26, 4.52 p.m. SIDNEY, August 26. During u motor boat the Invincible a 35-feet boat, fitted with 60borse power engines, constructed by the owner, obtained a speed of 21 miles an hour. The Invincible left her, opponents in the race as if they were anohored. FEDERAL POLITICS. MELBOURNE, August 25. The Federal Government intends to oall for tenders for a system of wireless telegraphy, giving all companies an equal opportunity. The Government lost control of both Houses yesterday. The House of Representatives 'was counted out over the Bounties Bill, and the Senate on a defence discussion. A LOCAL OPTION BILL. HOBART, August 25. The Looal Option Bill had a vital clause providing for a general poll at eleotion time. This clause baa been struok out, thus practically killing the measure. RABBIT EXTERMINATION. DR DANYSZ'S EXPERIMENTS. Received August"26, 4.52 p.m. SYDNEY, August 26. Dr Dfinysz's experiments have proved that birds and animals other than rabbits are not affeoted by contagion, but a deliberate inoculation with the mioroDe has proved fatal. CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP. Reoeived August 25, 7.47 p.m. SYDNEY, August-25. The Five-mile Cross Country Championship was won by J. O'Brien. Time, 24min 29 l-ssec. EASTERN EXTENSION COMPANY. Received MELBOURNE, August 25. The Federal Government has Anally decided not to permit the Eastern Extension Company to reopen its office in the city for the receipt of despatch business.
