MASTERTON—FRIDAY.

Drunkenness—A first offender was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment for having been drunk. James Dalton, represented by Mr C. A. Pownll, was oonvioted and ordered to come up for sentence i when.called upon. Breaoh of Licensing Act.—William Derapster and William Dougall were charged with having been on licensed premises on Sunday last. The charge against Dougall, for whom Mr Dolan appeared, was dismissed and Demcater was fined sa, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Driving Without Lights. Harry James Stinson was fined 5s and 7s costs, for failing to carry a light on a vehicle which he was driving in Bannister Street on the night of August 14th. Breach of Sanitary By-law.—Wil-liam Riok was charged, on the information of Stock Inspector Jenkinaon, with having sold milk from an unregistered dairy ' to James Astwood. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined 40s, with Ts costs. James Astwood pleaded guilty to a charge of having bought milk from Riok, he being in the ocoupptlon of an unregistered dairy. A fine of 40s, with 7s coats, was imposed. Drainage By-laws. —> J. Staples and Co., Finhey Bros., and Charlotte M. A. Jones were charged with breaches of the Borough By-laws in that they bad failed to have their premises properly connected with the Borough drainage system. The cases were withdrawn, on the understanding that each of the defendants would have the woik put in band within a month. Mr C. A. Fownall, appeared for the Borough Council. An Alleged Obstruction. —William Morris Wishaw was charged on the information of the police with that he (1) did obstruct Perry Street within the Borough of Masterton by placing a certain obstruction, to wit a motor oar, tnereon ; (2) d'd negligently encumber a public plaoe; (3) did leava a vehicle without reasonable excuse in a public place; (4) did leave standing on a part of a publio place a certain enoumbrance, contrary to tbe Masterton Borough By laws of 1904. All the charges were withdrawn except the second, on wbiob defendant pleaded guilty, and a nominal fine of 5s with oosts was inflicted. Mr B. J. Dolan appeared for the defendant. A Defended Case.—ln tbe case of Thos. Baker v; Geo. Judd, a claim for alleged poisoning of a dog, valued at £ls, and £5 damages, judgment was given for defendant. Mr C. A. Pownall appeared for plaintiff, and Mr D. K. Logan for defendant.
