DEPORTATION OF LEPERS
Received August SYDNEY, August 23. An interesting point has in connection with the deportation of lepers. The Federal Government admit that it may be difficult to land them in the Islands, and the Federal Government may therefore he ve fto retain and support them, unless this course is found to conflict withUhe imperative demand for deportation, laid down by the Aot.
DESTRUCTION OF RABBITS.
3 Received August 23, 10.12 a.m. SYDNEY, August 23. Considerable success has been obtained in the destruoton of rabbits on the Karigaroobie Station, near Orange, by tying a quantity of cotton waste saturated with bisulphide carbon to the bind legs of rabbits and liberating them. The warrens were blocked up, with the result that those rabbits inside were suffocated.
CRIMPING AT NEWCASTLE.
Reoeived August 23, 10.12 a.m. SYDNEY, August 23. In the Legislative Council, Mr Alexander Brown strenuously denied the crimping allegations at Newcastle. He deolared that the commission, in regard to the statements made to it on the subject, was the victim of a silly hoax. EeoeivedjAuKast'24, 12.12 a.m. aYDNEY, August 23. The affidavit of Thomas Ball, formerly an officer on a number of vessels, has been submitted tu the Arbitration Court. Ball detailed speoiflc instances of crimping at Newcastle during the past twelve years and some within the last twelve months.

Reoeived August 23,11 p.m. THURSDAY ISLAND, Aug. 23. The steamer Port Chalmers, whioh weufc asbore at Gape York, Torres Straits, has been floated, and has arrived here. The vessel is uninjured. (The Port Chalmers was bound from Newcastle to Manila).
