(By Zetland)

The recent fine weather has assisted greatly iu improving the condition of the Masterton tracks, whijh are now in gcod order tor work. Mr W, E. Welch, the ousttodian, has set to work with a will to make the plough gallop fit for fast work, and some interesting gallops will be shown within the next few days by borses engaged Gt the Marten and Wairarapa Hunt CJub meetings. The hurdle horse Lissa has been taken in hand by a Masterton man, and is being worked at the Opaki oourse. The pony Weba is also one of the track workers, and may be taken through to Marton to compete in a short event. Mr T. Clancy has in work a good stamp of a gelding ty Mauser—Try Luck. He takes considerably after bis sire in appearance, and should be useful later on. Rifle Maid has been put into work again, aod is looking decidedly well for the time of the year. At the 'Jpaki course,' yesterday, some interesting work was witnessed. Taleteller and a bay mare, o«vned by Mr Taiawhio te Tau, ran five fuxjongs in goon style, the former with the best of the weights finishing in front. The gelding by Bonnie Scotland—St. Leger mare put in slow work twice round, and easy pacing waa allotted the Torpedo —Zanella filly, Te Kanui, Platypus, Royal Blue, Fraser, Lebeccio, Sub marine, Scotch Reel and Mauser gelding. R. J. Marr's team, Moetoropuku, Moloch, Officer gelding and Uam Var, were also out and appeared to be forward iu condition. Letherin is now quoted at 16 to 1, Submarine 50 to 1, and La Torpedo 100 to 1, fcr the New Zealand Cup. For the big event Paritutu is nominally first favourite at 8 to 1, and Boomerang second favourite at 10 to 1. At the Grand National meeting last week, Mr H. MoManaway sold Sir Percivale to Mr Victor Harris, of Chriatchurcb, for 105 guineas.
