CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Council of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. There were present—Messrs Donald Donald (chairman), C. E. Daniell, T. G. Mason, J. B. Keith, R. 1. Holmes, J. C. Ewington, W. B. Chenneils, J. D. Cruickshank, E. H. Waddington. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs M. Cas3lberg, B. J. Dolan, J. B. Moodie, G. C. Summerell. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £2 7s 3d. The report of the Committee appointed to deal with the recommendations of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce in connection with tbe revision of tbe tariff was adopted. The question of a light-line railway between Masterton aud Pongaroa was again discussed. It was generally admitted that the matter should not be allowed to drop. A committee consisting of Messrs Donald, Cruickshank, Ewington and Daniell was appointed to formulate a scheme in connection with the proposed line, and report to a future meeting. Messrs Donald, Cruickshank and Daniell were appoiuted a committee to acL with the committee appoiuted by the Masterton Borough Council to urge the necessity for widening tbe northern approach to Masterton. Mr W. Hi Cbennells moved that the Postmaster-General be asked, through the Masterton Postmaster, to give direction" for the post and telegraph offlae in Masterton to be kept open from 5 p.m till 7 p.m.; also that attention be drawu to tbe early hour at which tbe afternoon mail closes at Masterton and tbe length of time that elapses between the closing of the mail and departure of the train as compared with Palmerston North. Mr Donald seconded tbe motion, which was carried.
