UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE OF A FOOTBALL AGENT.
A good story is told at the expenae of the Scottish agent of a wellknown English football club. 7 He received instructions from the secretary of the club to secuie a really good "back" for the 'team at once. Accordingly he went, as be puts it, "on the urowl." In a certain village not many miles from Glasgow he came across some young fellows playing at football. He had not watched them many minutes before coming to the conclusion that he had found the very man be wanted in the person of a i big. raw-boned young (fellow, whose • play at back was certainly worth watching. Galling him on one side the agent entered into conversation with him, explaining that the uelebrated X—olub was in need of such a man and . had empowered the agent to offer "exceptional terras." "What will they be prepared to give if I sign and play for them in the coming season?" asked the player. The agent stated the teims and added that £5 would be paid on the spot if the v layer would sign the agreement at nnoe. After a little consideration the braw Soot accepted the terms and signed the proffered paper. The agent banded over the £5 and proceeded to the poet office, where he despatched a full aooount of his 'capture' to the secretary of the club. V The agent's feelings may be im- > agined on discorering that bo had 'signed on* a man who had played for the X— club for the past three seasons, and who was merely enjoying a short holiday inSootland when the agent 'discovered' him.
