CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor). ' Sir, —Allow me, through your paper, to enter a protest against the removal of Mr B. Leathwiok, who has been road overseer for the last three years, and who has given every satisfaction to pll hands—that is, to all those working under bim, and the settlers as well. Tbe only thing 1 ever heard against him was that he did too much work himself. At the last meeting of the Castlepoint County Council, he was told that he would not be required any longer. No reason whatever has been given. It is rumoured that he was too severe on the men working under him. Well, I have made it my business to ask several who worked under him and those who are on at present, and one and ail tell mo that they are all leaving as soon as Mr Leathwiok leaves. We don't want a "paper collar" boss here. We want a man who can do a day's work, and knows when a man is doing his work. 1 think myself, the people who are paying to keep the roads in repair are the best judges, as they see far more than most of the County Councillors do., If it ia a personal grievance between Mr Leathwiok and one of 1 the Councillors, then I say such a man is not fit to be a member of a Council. In uonoluson, 1 may say that all tbe settlers are dissatisfied at the action of the members of the Council. -I am, etc, A RATEPAYER.
