PROPOSED DAIRY FACTORY.

MEETING OF DAIRY FARMERS

AT MARTIN BOROUGH,

Messrs J. A. Renall, J. C. Ewington, and U. R. Syltes, of Masterton'paid a visit to Martin uorough and attended a meeting of dairy farmers held on Friday, says the Carterton Newa. There were between forty and fifty present, and Mr A. MoLood was chairman.

Mr J. Wall explained the object of the meetiug, and then called upon Mr Renall to explain the advantages farmers would derive by cooperating with the Masterton Butter Factory suppliers. Mr Renall explained at length the benefit that settlers in and around Masterton had gained under the co-operative system and anBwered several questions satisfactorily.

Mr T. Ingley said that ho had listenod with pleasure to the remarks of Mr Reuall; but ho was of opinion that Martid borough woul 1 serve its own ends better by establishing a butter factory of its own, especially with the increase of settlers on the Dyer estate, and, to back his opinion, he would gladly take up, as a nonsupplier, £IOO worth of shares. x (Applause). Mr J. Wall said he quite agreed with the remarks of Mr Ingley, and he would faU into line by also taking up £IOO worth of shares as a nonsupplier. Mr A. McLeod said he quite appreciated all the nice things that had been said, by their Masterton friends, but he, like the two previous speakers, considered, that Martinborough should certainly establish a factory of its own, and he would gladly take up £IOO worth of shares to assist the new settlers to establish a factory. On the motion of,the chairman, Messrs T. F. Evans and W. Reid were appointed to convene a meeting of probable milk suppliers to consider the question of co-operat-ing with Masterton or starting a factory in Martinborough. Mr Renall said that the three offers'of £IOO each were a great temptation; but, in his opinion, a butter factory would be of no use in 'Martinborough, and he strongly advocated joining with the Masterton faotory to save time and expense.
