HOCKEY.

WELLINGTON v. AUCKLAND.

By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, August la. • In the first representative hookey matoh Wellington defeated Auokland by 3 goals to nil. The matoh was played at Day's Bay on a fast ground. Wellington's combination in the first spell, with Auofelalnd's non-acceptance of chances, gave the victory to Wellington, though the teams were pretty evenly matched otherwise. Wellington scored the first aoal within a minute after the start of the game, through a smart bit of play between Elliott and Davis, ending in the former shooting successfully. The second goal was shot by Davis from a pass by Hickson in the Auckland cirole, and the third was struck by Hickson as tne result of a corner hit. Auckland bad » good deal the best of tha second spell, when Wellington tired, but owing partly to the visitors' centre forward (Mason) fiaving a bad foot, the shooting was indifferent. Auckland play Wairarapa on Monday, Manawatu on Wednesday, Wanganui on Thursday, and Taranaki on Saturday.

• The representative match, Wairarapa v. Auokland, will take place on the Masterton Showgrounds today. Play will commence at 3 o'clock.
