The statement of receipts and expenditure since April Ist showed the ■former to have been £46 2s 7d, and the latter £95 4s 9d. Messrs Jenkins, Bwington, Braggins, McEwen, E. Pragnell and Pickering, representing the Municipal Fire Brigade, waited on the Committee with referenoe !tn various matters. The deputation pointed out that a great deal of time was wasted in getting to fires and they suggested that a motor reel with chemioal appliances or horse-gear be procured. At -some mains the water pressure was not very great, and the mains were so small that only one branch could be affixed. With reference to fires in two storeyed buildiugs, it was pointei out that at the present. time n great deal of damage whs done to the stock by water, and perhaps very littie by fire. The Brigade had obtained Dartioulars from the manufacturers, and had ascertained that a motor reel would cost about £650. It waa suggested that a hand chemical engine might immediately be procured. The Committee decided to recommend th<* Council to procure a hand chemical engine with two dozen extra charges. It was further decided to get a sketch plan of and estimates for the accommodation required at the station, and to meet the Fire Brigade . officials at the station ou Thursday next to discuss matters.
